Arrived in Buenos Aries at about 9:30AM. After about an hour's car ride into the city, I checked into the hotel. After a shower and a change of clothes, I was ready to go exploring. It was a Holiday in Argentina, so the city was very quiet, and a lot of the shops were closed. I walked the area around the hotel to get my bearings, then arranged a City Bus tour, which took most of the afternoon. Here are the sights of the day:
The sun rising over central South America from 37,000 feet |
Almost there after a 10 hour flight!! Nothing but river delta as far as you can see. |
A restaurant just down the street from the hotel. Food wasn't great, but you got to love a place decorated with pirates! |
Your's truly and a very colorful horse in front of the hotel. Note the jacket; it is Winter here! (Though very pleasant) |
Tombs at the Cemetery Recoleta |
Another tomb. Eva Peron is here somewhere. |
A street performer and her props |
Salsa dancing on the sidewalk |
A really, really big tree in Recoleta. Rubber tree, I think. |
This is where Madonna sang to the Argentine people, which caused them to adore her. |
No shortage of places to spend money here. This is in the Caminito area. |
Interesting brass wire art at an outdoor vendor. Don't think I could get one of these back home intact. |
They pretty much cook meat anywhere, all the time. |
The day ended with a nice dinner with the gentleman with whom I will spend much of the next 3 weeks, Juan Carlos. I had a really, really big steak. And shortly after that, slept the night like a dead person.
